FFV – Part 56: My Name is Legion

Summary: Deeper into the Rift. Omega thoroughly whomps us, so we push on to fight a Not!Panda. We move into Dimension Castle, where we fight Exdeath’s Legion of Doom.

The Rift – Cave

-Omega. Ok, let’s try this. I know he’s a “superboss” and I’ll probably get mashed, but good faith effort and all that.

-He has reflect, so Black Mage is out. Let’s try Summoner. Also, reflect rings for everyone to help with wave cannon maybe.

-No go. All magicky attacks (e.g. spellblade) heal Omega. Even !Jump with Holy Lance equipped and !Finisher from Faris’ Gladiator. Let’s try more raw physical damage, like Berserker.

-Bahamut deals only 700 damage. Yeah, no.

-Omega gets off MULTIPLE attacks per round. So fast.

-Can’t land physical attacks. Defenes are too high. And I can’t use Off-Guard from !Blue to lower those defenses because of Reflect.

-Ok. Screw this. Bravo, good sir or madam. See ya, Omega.

-The room past Omega’s wandering sprite is a library. One of the books on the table is actually a dimension portal or something, and summons a boss: Apanda!

Warning: not an actual panda.

-It’s tough, and spams “Protect” on itself. But compared to Omega it’s a walk in the park.

-Another book in the library talks of Omega and the dragon Shinryu, who not even the legendary 12 weapons could overcome. No kidding on Omega. If Shinryu is even close, then I do not look forward to that encounter.

-Cool! When that dimensional book in the library is closed, the door opens to the cave. When it is open, it leads to a new area.

The Rift – Tower

-Here be dragons!

-This is like the top of a castle, with invisible passageways leading from parapet to parapet.

-Eventually we reach an actual castle.

---

The Rift – Dimension Castle

-Weird monsters.

-IRON GIANT!

Hello again! This time though, I think he’s just a regular (if tough) random enemy rather than a miniboss like in FFII, let alone a superboss like I learned he was in FFIII (though I didn’t fight him in my playthrough).

-Found the castles prison, full of different sprites.

-BOSS TIME? “Alte Roite.” A metamorph sprite.

-Who morphs into an Archaeoaevis-style dragon, “Sura Aevis.”

-Dang! Elemental attacks heal it. Base attacks do the job.

-I have to fight a mess of these guys.

-Next monster in the prison is Catastrophe.

You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!

It’s like Ahriman’s more terrifying cousin.

-Does Quake early, but doesn’t cast it much after that. Thankfully, since I don’t have !Time available.

-More Alte Roites.

-Why is the Legion of Doom in prison anyway? Did they pisso f Exdeath?

-Next member: Azulmagia.

Master of Blue.

Like his name implies, he casts a lot of blue magic. He looks a bit like FFII’s Beelzebub, like an insect.

-Lots of one-hit kills from this guy, but we survive.

-OH SWEETNESS! Killing him spawned a badly-needed save point. I’m not shy about save states, but I’ve been low on health and mana for a while, and very low on Hi Potions.

Next time: We continue in the Dimension Castle.
