FFVI – Part 34: Rage 2: The Veldt Strikes Back

Summary: Mostly spent this session around the Veldt accumulating more Rage for Gau.

The Veldt

-Flew over to the Veldt. Most of this was just getting new Rage (SO MANY NEW MONSTERS!) and trying out there ability.

-It looks like Edgar’s Chainsaw has two attacks. He either spins with it for massive single target damage or dons a hockey mask and has a chance to outright kill the target.

Setzer’s Slots

-I got to test Setzer’s slot mechanic out a lot. I’m probably wrong on some of what I concluded, but here’s the system as best I can understand it:

Common:

-First slot chocobo. Very high chance of triple chocobos regardless of when I stop the next two slots. This results in the delightful Chocobo Stampede for group damage.

-First slot diamond. Very high chance of triple diamonds for Prismatic Flash, group damage.

Uncommon:

-First slot airship. Tough to line up three, but when I get three, Setzer summons the Blackjack to “Divebomb” the enemies.

-First slot dragon. Even tougher to line up. Three dragons summons Bahamut for Megaflare.

Rare:

-First slot BAR. Very tough to line up. I’ve gotten a bit better at timing this, and can pretty consistently get the first two as BARs, but the third slot feels purely random because it moves so fast. I’ve seen two results from triple BAR. First is Bahamut’s “Megaflare,” and the second is where some big whale floats across the screen with this watery damage effect. I was so surprised that I didn’t catch the name of it.

-First slot 7: ??? I’ve seen “7” on the slot wheels, but haven’t been able to get it ever. Probably something awesome and overpowered. Hopefully I’ll see it one of these days!

Glossary of New Rage Abilities Acquired

Onion Knight: Imp

Imps.

Sergeant:Reflect on a single ally

Chippirabbit: Raise on a random ally or punch. I didn’t use this when I had a dead party member, so I don’t know if it prioritizes the dead. I’d hope so.

Corporal: Swing (heavy single target (“st”) physical damage)

Veil Dancer: Blizzara

Chaser: Plasma (heavy st thunder)

Wild Rat: Scratch (moderate st)

Flan: Sticky Goo (Slow?)

Anguiform: Aqua Breath (aoe water)

Fossil Dragon: Sandstorm (aoe wind)

Goetia: Libra

Destroyer: Reraise (on a random ally or does it prioritize the dead?)

Bloodfang: Drain

Lenergia: Shamshir (basically Gravity)

Joker: Thundara

Don: Tackle (moderate st physical)

Harvester: Haste on a st ally

Fidor: Pounce (st heavy physical)

Hell’s Rider: Venomist (aoe poison)

Rock Wasp: [Sleepsting and float]

Magna Roader: [Bio and protect]

Litwor Chicken: Quake or wand. The quake hits EVERYONE for massive damage, my party included.

The Pyrrhic victory of the Litwor Chicken.

It kills everyone. The only reason we survive at all is that Gau still had Float on from using Rock Wasp.

Trapper: Level 3 Confuse.

Vulture: Shamshir

Exocite: Pincer (moderate st physical)

Aspiran: Gigavolt (massive thunder)

Actinian: Clamp (moderate st physical)

Iron Fist: Stone

Stunner:Incisors (moderate st physical)

Wyvern: Cyclonic (aoe wind)

Heavy Armor: Magitek Laser (low st fire)

Gobbledygook: Vanish on st ally

General: Cura on random ally

---

My favorite at the moment:

Damage: Guard Leader (wind slash), Veil Dancer (blizzara), Ghost (thundara), Chaser (plasma for st thunder), Stray Cat (cat scratch fever), Templar (fira), Angel Whisperer (gravity), Magna Roader (quake – ONLY USE IF EVERY PARTY MEMBER HAS FLOAT)

Utility: Cirpius (hastega), Goetia (libra), Destroyer (reraise), General (Cura)

---

Next time: More airship time.
