Conde Petie
-Not sure what that name means. Sounds French.
-The music sounds like some kind of pipe or flute.
-hahahhaa – Quina ran ahead thinking about food that might be inside. Zidane commented that all they ever think about is food, Dagger retorted that all Zidane thinks about is girls, and Zidane tried to save the situation with “Um, yeah! All I ever think about is… you?”
The look Vivi gives him… XD
-There are short green creatures inside. Orcs? They greet us with “Rally-ho,” recalling the “Lali-ho” of dwarves from FFs past.
-They seem friendly.
-Oh, they ARE dwarves! Interesting design. Heavy Scottish accents and all.
-ATE time.
---
Quina Accused
-Uh oh. Are they going to try to eat something they shouldn’t?
-Quina gets into a fun little conversation with the grocer, Wendy Grocer. Conde Petie is known for tasty food, and people often steal.
It sounds like Quina’s not used to the concept of trading money for food. Confused by the idea of it, despite specifically hating thievery. Really cool detail to learn about Qu culture.
-The grocer takes this “what, gil for food??” comment as an admission that Quina is the thief and chases them away.
---
Vivi and the Couple
-Looks like Vivi stumbled into the middle of a marital dispute.
-He is afraid at first, pre-emptively apologizing for intruding, but the woman totally brushes that aside, just greeting him pleasantly and moving on her way.
-And this is kind of sad? Not that they’re treating him like this of course, but rather that his reaction is so shocked that people are not afraid of him.
---
Dagger and William
-lol the dwarves are discussion whether to set up one of their less-desirable sons for marriage, and looking at Dagger.
-They mention “sending to the Sanctuary,” that Dagger’s a bit young. Their term for marriage perhaps, or the place where the marriage happens.
---
Zidane in Conde Petie
-The people here are very in touch with the land.
-Mogmatt the moogle is here. Gives us a letter for Suzuna.
-They haven’t even heard of the Mist here. I wonder if it’s an artificial creation by someone on the Mist Continent.
---
Quina Can’t Communicate
-Not a promising title.
-NOOO!! Quina comes across some townsfolk discussing the thief. Quina immediately claims they aren’t the thief. The townsfolk are like, “Hm… we didn’t think so, but now that you MENTION IT…”
-They don’t pursue it really, but Quina’s uncomfortable anyway. They’re so far from their home and culture right now. I’m not surprised communication issues have arisen.
-Quina walks away, and we see a yellow (?!) moogle pompom and a purple head of hair pop up suspiciously behind a nearby counter.
The true thieves!

Around Conde Petie
-Zidane comes across Vivi. Vivi’s in conversation with two townspeople who are complementing him on the berries he traded and his cooking skill. Uhhhhh. Not Vivi. Is another black mage in town?
---
Hungry Bryan
-A kid and his sister arguing about whether the boiled owl he just ate was enough.
The art on these dwarves is pretty hilarious and wonderful.
-Hee! They call Vivi “Mister Pyntie-Het.”
-Huh. Again, they greet him and ask what he’s selling today. Definitely a black mage wandering vendor. And a pleasant, non-murderous one it sounds like.
---
Zidane in Conde Petie
-Yeah, definitely sounds like the Sanctuary is where couples go to finalize marriage, though the spiritual beliefs seem more naturalistic. Praise the sun.
-A shrine in town has a roster of 99 names that have visited the Sanctuary and been joined by someone named Father David.
-In the shrine is something they call “the Kirkboat,” but they don’t know what a boat is. Hm. It’s developed into a symbol of their culture. This feels a bit like some lost episode of Star Trek where the Enterprise lands on a primitive world and the people develop a religion around this unknown relic that they take to calling the Kirkboat.
-hahaha – they keep trying to ask around about Kuja, and nobody really gives the an answer. Zidane asked one dogherder (BEST JOB EVER??) if there were any sinister-looking folks around.
Not the most helpful question in an unfamiliar culture.
-There’s a spring to the south where if you throw a coin in, you’ll supposedly be happy forever. Or restore your body and mind, depending on the rumor.
-THERE HE IS!! The black mage!
Dressed like the dolls rather than Vivi. A spy from Kuja maybe.
-The mage runs away and Vivi chases after. We’re too late. He got away.
-The dwarf who greeted us, Harold Pathknower, says that there’s a whole village of Pointy-Hats in the forest to the southeast. They often come to trade.
-So it’s possible that they’re Kuja spies, but I don’t get that sense. Maybe they’re living black mages like (I think) Vivi is.
-Gonna see if I can solve the mystery of the thief before I leave.
-The weapons vendor sells Poison Claws which I can’t use. Buying one anyway. Just in case.
-No luck. I can’t find the two kid thieves. But since there are gatekeepers barring my way to different parts of down, I assume I’ll be back.

Next time: on the trail of the black mage.
