FFV – Part 38: Into the Woods

Summary: Into the Great Forest of Moore. Exdeath sets it on fire, and moogles save us. We find the Guardian Tree, protecting “seals.” Once inside, four crystalline elemental thingies attack us. We defeat them, and Exdeath emerges to mwa-ha-ha at us.

Great Forest of Moore

-Very pleasant music here.

-I feel like I have a broad enough job set that I want to master some of what I have. To start:

FARIS: Mystic Knight
BARTZ: Monk
GALUF: Black Mage
LENNA: White Mage

-The first part of the forest is small, but per the instructions of someone in the town, I checked the hollow of a tree. Some sparkly spirit thing came out and opened up an underground passage to the next section.

-IMPS! Grrr. These are the guys who cast “Confuse.” Not too tough, just annoying.

-I keep going back and forth on whether I want Galuf to master blue or black magic first. Leaning towards black, and then later I’ll do summoner and blue.

-Woot, nm! Just got him to 4th level Blue Mage, which mastered it. Black and Summoner next!

-Frigging mini magicians drain all my mana…

-Getting a bit lost in here.

-Seeing save points always raises my heartrate a bit, since it means something’s about to happen.

-Earthquake! And the happy forest music has been replaced with Exdeath’s music.

-WHAT – THE FOREST IS ON FIRE.

Tyger, tyger, burning bright/In the forests of the night.

THE WHOLE FOREST.

-A moogle! It appeared to open a hole in the ground to its moogle home. We follow.

---

Moogle Cave

-Well, we’re safe. Chilling with the moogles.

-Waited a bit, recovered health/mana, then headed back out.

---

Great Forest of Moore

-The forest is way different now. It’s discolored, devoid of leaves.

-Hm. Not really seeing where to go. Can’t go back, since the way’s been blocked… aha! Found the path to continue on.

-Found “Ash” in a treasure chest. Literally ashes. Will this be useful, or is it the remains of some awesome item I should’ve found before the fire? Probably the latter. Or maybe it was Excalibur, and Lone Wolf came and replaced it with ashes to screw with me.

-We find a GINORMOUS tree.

-The Guardian Tree, that protects “the seal.” WHAT SEAL?? SEALING WHAT? Are there 66 of them to break?

-We wave Ghido’s branch in front of the Guardian Tree, and it opens a path for us to enter.

-Going to explore the rest of this forest first.

-Found “Flametongue,” a sword, but it seems to be unusable by Faris at the moment a la Blood Sword. Maybe she’ll need the Knight job to wield it? Hm.

-Ok, ready.

---

Guardian Tree

-It closed behind us. Inside are four blue flamey things. They converge on us.

-Boss fight! With… um… amorphous spiky blobs?

They’re not even named.

-Interesting. I cast Firaga on them, and one of them was healed while the others took damage.

-Thunder did nothing.

-One’s “Aqua Breath” really hurts. One casts “Earth Shaker.” Are these nascent elemental fiends?

-And one casts Aeroga, confirming my elemental theory.

-Success! Wow… and what success! 15 ABP as the reward.

-Dammit. Exdeath’s voice chimes in from behind. This can’t be good.

Next time: Treeception! Confronting Exdeath inside the Guardian Tree.
