Summary:
Kefka sets Figaro on fire, but our trio escapes and the castle
submerges. We head to South Figaro, on the way to Returners HQ. We meet
Shadow.
Figaro Castle
-Night time. Creepy music as Edgar wakes up.
-The castle is on fire! And here’s Kefka.
KEFKA: “Bring me the girl. [Edgar says no.] Oh? Then… enjoy the barbecue! Hee-hee-hee!” Maybe “hee-hee-hee” is the new “mwa-ha-ha.”
-His guard is pretty excited too. And… is that a Beavis and Butthead reference I see?
-If so, I’m TOTALLY unsurprised that Kefka employs Beavis as his personal bodyguard.
This cements my thought that Kefka’s nastier than Gilgamesh. Gil would have challenged Edgar to a duel to get Terra, not set the city on fire.
-Edgar to a guard: “Get her ready.” No way. You’re really turning her over to Darth Kefka? If so, that Lando comparison was more on the nose than I expected. I still hold out hope, since “get her ready” is a weird sentence for preparing to turn someone over.
-HAHA NM – He just jumped off the castle onto a running chocobo, and Terra and Locke joined in shortly after.
The great escape.
-How can this get better? By proving me wrong about my “the mystery technology is airships” theory.
EDGAR: “Sink her into the sand.”
The castle goes FULL ON SUBMARINE MODE, FOLDS UP, AND DIVES INTO THE SAND. SO COOL.

Desert
-As the trio runs away on chocobos, it’s boss time. Two magitek soldiers catch up.
-We start to fight, but something spooks Edgar and he stops. Huh?
-Oh! It was the fact that I had Terra cast fire. Both he and Locke are freaked out.
Love all the “magic is weird” worldbuilding.
-Guys, I get that you’re surprised to see magic cast in person, but maybe save this conversation with Terra for AFTER the magitek soldiers are dead?
-I continue to like Locke for his perspective. He takes the position that her ability to cast magic is just another trait, ultimately no different than any other skill. Given Terra’s concern over being normal, this is really cool to see.
-Auto-crossbow is really strong. We win.
-LOL KEFKA – Basically stomping his feet and pouting as we run.
I’ll get you next time, Gadget!
-They’re going to take Terra to meet the leader of the Returners, Banon.
-Edgar: “No human is born with the powers you have.” Ow. That stops Terra cold.
-Chocobo-riding perspective is weird.
---
South Figaro Cave
-I like the cave music.
-TURTLE! Just sitting in the recovery pond. I both hope and doubt it’s Ghido.
-FF adds to its pool of eyeball monsters with a furry one.
-Hee! Edgar dons hazard gear when he uses Bioblaster.
---
South Figaro
-We emerge from the cave and wander over to this town. I know Edgar said the Returners’ cave is north of here, but I want to see the town.
-There’s a knight walking around who quite rudely ignores us and walked into the inn. Jerkface.
-Mt. Kolts lies beyond Saber Mountains.
-Lots of stuff in barrels and pots around the town.
-There’s a ship in the South Figaro harbor, but it’s not going anywhere yet.
-Someone in our party looks like “Duncan’s student.” Duncan’s apparently also been training his son Vargas, but a townsperson told us that Vargas sucks and isn’t progressing.
-Hey! There’s the knight. WITH A PUPPY (Rottweiler or German Shepherd)!!!!
-The knight still ignores us. Locke gets annoyed, but Edgar knows him and tells Edgar to chill the fuck out. We fade to a black intro screen – Shadow.
-The music playing as we learn about Shadow is PHENOMENAL. Thematically it reminds me of Terra’s song.
The mysterious Shadow. AND A PUPPY HI PUPPY
-Omg. Can this please please please turn into a Final Fantasy/”American Gods” crossover?
-My mistake – he’s an assassin, not a knight. No doubt we’ll see you down the road. Enjoy your drink. See ya.

Next time: More exploration of South Figaro and then to the Returners’ cave.
