I come down on the side of liking Roche because he’s so over the top, so flamboyant. It’s also a point in his favor that I read him as bi.
I mentioned in this session that he reminds me strongly of Johnny, the cyborg greaser racer in Chrono Trigger. Here’s Johnny:
It’s the ending (around 3:30) that nails it for me. You beat Johnny in a race and he’s surprised, but not unhappy.
