FFVI – Part 69: Rage 4: The Veldt Awakens

Summary: Where I try to build Gau’s rage selection in the new world and help out Strago’s pool of blue magic. Super long post today, since I’m trying to process a lot of new info and It would’ve felt weird for me to try to string out a non-story session over two posts.

General Thoughts

I know I did a ton more than I needed to here. A lot of the rages I picked up here were either redundant or worse than existing ones. And even with a wide array of options at the end, most of them I probably won’t use. And that’s fine. Gau is an intrinsically fun character for me, and I enjoyed trying all these different rages out.

The Veldt was so much harder than the last time I tried it, as I should’ve expected. I didn’t however expect to see bosses here (e.g. Holy Dragon, Behemoth King), and had some really close calls.

New Lore

New spells picked up by Strago:

-Aero
-Self-Destruct
-Dischord
-Level 4 Flare
-White Wind
-Traveler = “Damage dealt to an enemy equal to 1/32 of the party’s total steps taken.” Weird.

White Wind.

Ragey Choices to Test

Did my testing in the Tyrannosaur Forest to the north, so I could have a common target.

-Anemone’s “Gigavolt” or Chaser’s “Plasma” or Al Jabr’s “Thundaga” – AL JABR
-Sandhorse’s “Sandstorm” or Guard Leader’s “Wind Slash” – EQUAL
-Adamankary’s “Acid Rain” or Exoray’s “Venomist” – ADAMANKARY (exoray turns Gau undead, can’t heal)

A brutally hard monster, and the only non-tyrannosaur I found.

-General’s “Cura” or Peeper’s “White Wind” – DIFFERENT (White Wind better if Gau’s health is high)
-Veil Dancer’s “Blizzara” or Kamui’s “Snowstorm” – KAMUI (much better st damage)
-Onion Dasher’s “Traveler” or Killer Mantis’s “Metal Cutter” or Hill Gigas’s “Magnitude 8” or Purusa’s “Rock Slide” – PURUSA FOR ST, KILLER MANTIS FOR AOE
-Weredragon’s “Death” or Lycaon’s “Blaster” - LYCAON
