Chrono Trigger – Part 21: Unsealed

Summary:Traveling across time unlocking sealed chests and seeing some of the consequences of my actions.

65,000,000 BC

-I’m a bit annoyed that I didn’t get to see all of the area I was just in. I didn’t get to see the Blackbird or the town. Partly annoyed at the game for whisking me away before I was ready to go, and partly annoyed at myself since I should have recognized Zeal Palace for a more final location to that section than the town or the Blackbird.

-Wish I had made a list of places I found the sealed chests. I find myself in a very similar position now to FFI. In FFI, there were a ton of doors that you couldn’t pass early in the game. Midway through, you got the Mystic Key and could go back to open those doors and get nice loot. Well, as long as you remembered where they all were.

I’ll try not to worry about it too much. Going to have some faith that the game will make me pass through old areas again and see the chests. If not, I’ll miss out on some. That’s okay too.

-Kino’s back in the Chief’s Hut, holding down the fort.

-With Lavos’s fall, the beginnings of the ice age are setting in.

---

End of Time

-Spekkio is now in the shape of an Omnicrone.

-Aw. Ayla can’t learn magic since she was born before magic existed.

-The Old Man here says that he remembers someone developing Wings of Time. Must be the dude in 2,300.

-There’s still an area in End of Time that seems like it should be accessible, but isn’t.

Stairs to the right that lead to nothing currently. This could just be decorative or an area that unlocks later.

1,000 AD

-Taban gave me a Taban Helm for Lucca. Thanks for the upgrade!

-Went to Porre. Opened two sealed chests to get a White Vest (protects against lightning) and Black Vest (against shadow).

-The family here is now super generous.

Complete opposite from the family that I think was here back in the middle ages, with the father who made me dance like a chicken for money.

-In the inn, someone mentions that a woman, Fiona, died protecting the forest 400 years ago. Gonna check on her at Fiona’s Villa after I’m done in 1,000 AD.

-Bought another Jerky for 9,900g. Just in case.

-FRITZ! DUDE! Elaine’s still waiting for you. Get your ass back here.

-Blue Vest in the chest in the Truce Inn.

-Took Ayla to the prehistoric dance section of the Millenial Fair in case there were any interaction, but nothing. She probably just side-eyes the whole thing super hard as either appropriative or inauthentic. Or heck, maybe she just appreciates it as a homage and is glad that her her

-If I had been found innocent, I wonder if I would’ve been able to explore Guardia Castle or if there would’ve just been some other twist in that storyline that would’ve led to Crono being evicted/exiled/hunted.

1,000 AD – Medina Village and Surrounding

WAIT WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON

-History in game is malleable! We can change the past! The town square of Medina that had everyone worshipping Sir Magus is now full of monsters chanting to Ozzie the Great, with a statue of Ozzie.

I’m now having second thoughts about that family. Was the greedy asshole family actually in 1,000 AD and the fact that I gave them Jerky back in 600 AD and made sharing their watchword…

Just. Wow. The world in Chronotrigger is WAY more changeable than I had expected. This is awesome.

I wonder what happened to the Elder Ozzie.

-Village Elder Ozzie is still a dick, one who uses his (now illustrious) ancestry to boss others around. I don’t remember if he used that ancestry to boss others around last time we were here or if that changed.

-One last thing to check: the Forest Ruins that are covered by the same thing that covered the North Palace in the Magic Kingdom.

-!!! A thing is happening?

YES! Crono’s pendant unlocked it. A Nu inside offers us one of two chests – a sword or a protective vest.

-This is the Nu that was with Balthasar. Perhaps even the Nu whose back we scratched. He blinks out of existence.

-Gonna go with the sword. Called “Swallow.” And HOLY CRAP it does a ton of damage, increasing Crono’s attack power from 103 to 143 along with his speed.

---

600 AD

-Went back to the Truce Inn and got another Blue Vest. Glad I got the future Blue Vest first or it might not have existed. Or… did the Vest from the future disappear because I took it from the past?.. nope, the other Blue Vest is still there. Perhaps I stole the Blue Vest in the past, someone checked on it, saw it was missing, and replaced it. Sure. Why not.

-Everyone in town is delighted that the war is now over against Magus. Leene Square is named, the town is Truce, and the Leene Bell is finally complete.

-A nun is back in the cathedral.

A real nun I think, not one of Yakra’s minions.

-The cathedral is now devoid of monsters. Checked the whole place. Found a couple of treasure chests I missed the first time around, but that’s it. Still not sure though why the newly-peaceful kingdom of Guardia decided to destroy the cathedral entirely between 600 and 1,000. Maybe it was just because the monster infestation polluted it or something.

---

Castle Guardia

-The injured soldiers have recovered, and the guards are happy to see us – we who (sorta) defeated Magus.

-The Knight Captain and Chef have made up! Yay! And the Chef is experimenting with a big dish. Feast time coming up?

-Swapped in Frog for this. He finds peace and forgiveness.

Yay Glenn! He’s even offered the role of Knight Captain, but declines.

-Red Vest in a sealed chest. In the forest outside, opened another sealed chest to get a Speed Tab.

---

Southern Sub-Continent

-A chest in Sandorino is still locked.

-Magus’s lieutenants ran off and are on an island in hiding. That must be the island where the Rainbow Thingy is for the Sandorino subquest is.

-Fiona’s still here in her Villa. She didn’t die defending the forest in the war with Magus. That must mean we’re not out of the woods yet in the middle ages. Maybe a counterattack by the lieutenants. Or something related to the black wind that Janus mentioned.

-I was right before. The Jerky-cooker who taught her family the value of sharing is from this era. That’s awesome.

-Picked up another set of Black and White Vests from the Elder’s house here in Porre.

-More talk now of the Fiona. She sounds kind of awesome.

-People all around are at times kind of dickish on hearing that the Hero is a frog.

---

2,300 AD

-Went to the Proto Dome, beat Johnny, and headed east.

-People in the Arris Dome are more hopeful now.

-Got an AWESOME new dual tech between Frog and Crono called Spire.

Crono called lightning onto Frog, Frog slams the Masamune into the enemy, and lightning then smashes through the Masamune into the enemy.

-Passed the Sealed Door below the Arris Dome, and got some goodies. A Power Tab, Lumin Vest and Hit Ring and Gold Earring. The Gold Earring doubles health. Going with that for Marle for now.

-Saving here in the Arris Dome.

Next time: through the Sewer Access to talk to Balthasar.
