Summary:
We see hints at Tifa’s perspective on meeting Cloud. This is a bit
after the whole Godzilla (“Weapon”) awakening. Barret and Tifa are in
the Shinra Building, marching to execution. Because Shinra.

-A black screen, with Cloud sitting in the middle.
-He starts to walk off into the distance. Tifa comes from the foreground running after him. “I didn’t know what to do… I was always like that.”

Midgar Train Station
-Tifa sees Cloud sitting on the ground, and walks up to see if he’s ok. This must be their true meeting.
-But even here I don’t quite get it. Every time she asks about some new memory, like, “How long has it been?” we see the screen flash white as if the memory is being generated or configured on the spot.
-In the flashback, he says it’s been five years since they met. But we see Tifa’s voiceover: “Actually, it’s been seven years. You joined SOLDIER and quit after the Sephiroth incident, and now you’re a mercenary. You told me what happened after Nibelheim, but something’s wrong.
“I felt there was something strange about the things you talked about. All the things you didn’t know that you should, and all the things you did know that you shouldn’t.”
So they played with his memory and didn’t do a perfect job.
-But she wanted him near. So she told him about the AVALANCHE job and got him to stay.
Hopefully I’m meant to be confused right now, because this didn’t help a lot. Still feels like scattered pieces to an incomplete puzzle.

Shinra Building
-Tifa and Barret. Tifa is waking up from being knocked out or something. The glare and sound. Is this a flashback?
-No. This is the present. Barret and Tifa on the plane.
[later edit: I was wrong, and think it’s the Shinra Building, but am leaving this here because it accurately reflects my and Tifa’s disorientation.]
-Whoa! This is a week after all of that. Tifa’s been asleep this whole time, and Barret doesn’t know what happened to Cloud.
-Sephiroth’s been sleeping in a big barrier of light protected at the Northern Cave. Oh, and Mecha-Godzilla – whom Barret calls “Weapon” – is on a rampage.
-Rufus is fighting Weapon. Good for Rufus. (Not even kidding.) Barret doesn’t know if Weapon is protecting Sephiroth, but I seriously doubt it. I think it’s more likely that he’s waiting for the barrier to go away before he kicks Sephiroth’s ass six ways from Sunday.
-As for the meteor…
-Here, Barret opens a window and we see the meteor sitting in the burning red sky. Low hanging. Looming.
-Well. Fuck.

-Rufus walks into the room. God, it’s SO WEIRD to hear him say this, but he describes Cloud as Sephiroth’s alter-ego.
-Just as I was wondering whether we were going to team up with Shinra to save the day, Heidegger steps in to announce Barret and Tifa are to be executed for “causing this.” Really, guys?
HEIDEGGER: “People are ignorant. They’ll feel better as long as someone is punished.” The world’s about to end. Why do you even care, Broseph? Inertia probably. Just habit for Shinra.
-Tifa and Barret get handcuffed and led through what I have to assume is the Shinra building.
-Save point.
