FFVII Crisis Core – Part 57: Director Protector

Summary: Zack doesn’t get to see his parents in Gongaga, but sees almost everyone else. Lazard, Genesis, Hollander, Cissnei… the gang’s all here! And some are in dire need of s-cells.

Gongaga

-I forgot he was from here. He worries that if he visits his mom, he’ll get ambushed.

-More Angeal sightings.

-Kunsel, you’re the best.

Do I ship it? …maybe.

-LOL – Cissnei caught you. Like, immediately.

Nice hiding, dude.

-She warns him away from seeing his parents. He gets the hint and moves to leave, though she adds that “another target is in the area.” Angeal?

-Yes. He’s probably here to see Zack. Cissnei gives him a 10 minute head start.

-Cissnei continues to be the best. She checked up on his parents, who seem pretty nice. I remember meeting them briefly in FFVII.

-He asks after her parents, and apparently Cissnei was raised inside Shinra.

-hahahaha – she’s a professional level troll. He asks her to spend some time with his parents, and jokes about them probably asking her to join the family. Her reply: “They already have.” Zack freaks out, walks after wondering what she said to them in reply. She just smiles and doesn’t answer.

WTF??? If Cissnei’s not her real name, then who is she? I wonder if we’ve met her before in FFVII – er, after. Damn this timey-wimey stuff.

-She leaves. Zack sees a winged creature in the distance take flight, and runs after.

-Crispy crap on a popsicle, just got a GREAT treasure: a QMC that grants me access to a special Turks store. Some major league materia that increases my chance at getting various DMW rolls.

Hills by Gongaga

-We see the figure’s back as he flies off a ledge.

That’s Lazard, not Angeal!

-After Probably!Lazard flies off, two Genesis copies swoop in, asking for “S cells” like zombies ask for “braaaaaains.” The copies are definitely looking worse for the wear.

-Phew! After killing them, more appeared, but winged versions of Hollander and Genesis drop from the sky. Hollander stops the clones, saying “his cells are completely useless.” Right! Didn’t they see what happened to Haireater McMutantface?

-All the black winged army is looking for these “pure s-cells,” which I’ll bet need to come straight from Jenova. “Gift of the Goddess” indeed.

-…nope. Wrong. It’s Cloud they need.

-Genesis keeps rambling about “sacrifice at world’s end” from LOVELESS and Zack couldn’t care any less.

What a tool.

-Something about the “water’s surface” that Genesis interprets as the lifestream and leaves for Cloud.

Abandoned Mako Reactor

-Zack arrives just as Creepy Creeperson and pals move to take Cloud.

-Lazard’s got white wings, putting him on Team Angeal I guess as opposed to the black wings of Hollander and Genesis.) He flies in to the rescue, fighting Team Blackwing.

-LOLOL WTF HOLLANDER. Zack goes to fight Hollander one-one-one, and he has some of the weirdest attacks. They include toxic breath, spewing out worms that grow giant, and – not joking – opening his bag and pulling out a GIANT MISSILE AND THROWING IT AT ZACK.

-Pretty tough fight, but got the goober eventually. He dissolves into green mist.

-Zack rejoins Lazard, who is apparently just an Angeal copy? Don’t really get it. Maybe he’s Lazard but infused with something from Angeal.

-Zack asks why Lazard helped Hollander escape Junon. He used to be driven by revenge and wanted Hollander’s help, but now wants to do good.

LAZARD: “It’s a strange feeling.”
ZACK: “Nothing strange about that. Angeal lives inside you.”

Aw. Angeal-Zack feels.

-Neither of them is sure what this whole “gift of the goddess” business is. I just assumed it meant some kind of life/blessing directly from Jenova.

-Zack still wants to be a hero. It’s a great character trait – in an age of grimdark brooders, it’s refreshing to see Zack, who’s like, “Hell yes I want to be a hero. Heroes are AWESOME!”

-Team up time. They head after Genesis. Zack points to the purple apple yoinked from Genesis as a clue to where he is, but I’m not sure I get it. Banora maybe?

Zack and luggage – ahem, Cloud.

End of act title screen.
