FFVII Crisis Core – Part 67: Gift of the Goddess

Summary: Genesis draws on the power of the goddess. He still falls.

Preparation

-I’m not sure what to expect going into this final fight.

Materia: High Jump, Curaga, Quake, Osmoga, Lucky Stars, HP Up ++ [Later edit: I actually regret deeply not using Barrier and MBarrier more in the harder missions. I think they would’ve helped a lot.]
Accessories: Safety Bit, Crystal Gloves, Sprint Shoes, Aegis Armlet

-Here. We. Go.

---

Light of Doom

-There’s a statue of the goddess, a long and twisty pillar, and a red orb at the top.

-And Genesis. Doing Genesis things. i.e. quoting LOVELESS.

GENESIS: “My soul, corrupted by vengeance, hath endured torment to find the end of the journey.”

I guess he also played the 1,000 soldiers mission. (SORRY)

-He looks super haggard and washed out.

-Genesis holds, not incorrectly, that Zack succeeded Angeal and carries some of Sephiroth within him, making the three friends reunited again. He wants to play out LOVELESS clearly.

-LOL. Like two seconds later, he says just that.

-Some more LOVELESS quoting. Then, the red orb above erupts in light. “The gift of the goddess!” Is it? Zack thought the cells were the gift, and so did I, but Genesis claims it’s this thing from Banora.

-Genesis wants the planet to join the Lifestream. Huh. Unlike Sephiroth, he doesn’t seem to want to fight it, but embrace it. I’m pretty confused though.

-As Genesis starts to channel the “gift,” whatever it is, and go super saiyan, Zack keeps fighting for Genesis to wake up from this business. Still trying to save him.

OH SHIT GENESIS TURNED INTO A POWER RANGERS VILLAIN

His armor looks really badass and great.

-Starts the fight as Genesis Avatar. Unattackable. He slams his sword down, which IS attackable, and summons a number of Scythe-wielding shadow monsters.

Once I clear the shadow monsters out, I can attack the sword, which I assume will eventually push him into the next phase once it takes enough damage.

The devastating “Purgatorial Wave” attack.

He withdraws his sword high above. If I had some ranged attack I could reach it probably, but alas. Just Quake.

-Got it. Phase two time.

-The orb atop the statue that was red is now drained.

-Genesis is looking way better now! His coat is red, and all the color has returned to him. Phase 2 = the end of Wizard of Oz?

ZACK: “Does this mean you knew? From the beginning?”

KNEW WHAT?? I don’t get it.

-Regular form Genesis now just wants to fight. One on one. Not sure if this’ll be a real phase two or if it’ll be like the auto-win duel between Sephiroth and Cloud at the end of FFVII.

-Genesis imbued sword looks awesome.

”I see you have constructed a new lightsaber.”

-I like the music. It’s relatively understated.

-I feel a bit like I’m cheating. He’s trying to use swordplay, and I’m just standing back, dodging, and casting Quake. Victory in phase 2.

-Genesis got KNOCKED THE FUCK BACK. Into the lifestream.

-Uh oh. The statue of the goddess is now glowing red, and Genesis walks towards it.

-SHE CAME ALIVE! The Goddess! (Embodiment of the Lifestream?)

She looks a bit like the hair-eating Genesis clone, but not monstrous. Like what it was trying to be.

-Genesis reaches out to her. She looks… disappointed? Or something. Closes her eyes, and with a blast of green fire sends him into the Lifestream. He’s ripped apart.

-Or at least his soul is ripped apart. His body remains, falling lifelessly (AND LOVELESSLY?) to the ground.

-The goddess statue crumbles. Poor Zack. Wasn’t able to save Genesis.

Next time: epilogue. The end of Crisis Core.
