FFVII Crisis Core – Part 68: Silent Sacrifice

Summary: The end of Lazard and (maybe?) Genesis. The too rapid passage of time. Checking in with the Turks.

Outside the Depths of Judgment

-Oh, right lol. These guys are still here.

-Lazard and Zack are both out of it, but Zack carries Genesis’s corpse out to them.

-They were attacked while Zack was in the Depths. By Shinra. Luckily, the Angeal clone that hung around the church saved their asses.

-Maybe “saved” is overstating it. Lazard falls unconscious. Dead?

-WAIT WHAT

-GENESIS IS ALIVE?

-So Zack put a Banora apple into the hands of the unconscious/dead Cloud, Lazard, and Genesis, said, “Sorry I’m not the real thing. [???] Let’s eat!” and bit into the apple. Genesis speaks up (???), “Is it good? The gift of the goddess?” Then, “The dream came true.”

-Lazard disappears into a drift of feathers.

-Then the Angeal clone monster’s body dissipates in a green mist. Same deal. But something is left behind…

-….ugh. My heart. It’s a note wrapped around its neck from Aerith.

-SHE WROTE 89 LETTERS TO ZACK? IT’S BEEN FOUR YEARS? I’m beyond confused. Did four years pass while he was in the Depths hunting Genesis?

-Good. Zack is pissed and confused too about the four year thing, which tells me I at least didn’t miss something obvious there. Or if I did, he and I both did. “FOUR YEARS?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN ‘FINAL?’” He screams to the heavens above, throwing his apple to the ground. (I assume the “final” comment was that he can’t believe it’s her final letter.)

-Zack picks up the unconscious Cloud, and starts walking. “Aerith – wait for me.”

Later, in Banora

-A Shinra helicopter. Two unknown voices speaking.

#1: “This must be an important matter if they’re sending the two of us.”
#2: “Apparently the subject will become our brother.”

I have to assume the subject is Cloud, since we still have to transition to FFVII. Turks speaking? No, they’re not Cloud’s brother.

-No, it’s Genesis.

Two First Classes (we don’t see their faces) pick him up and head back to the helicopter. “But will he accept his fate willingly?”

-After the copter takes off, a piece of paper with the words from LOVELESS drifts onto the chair Genesis was sitting on. It lingers there, hovering in midair, clearly not by chance. Genesis’s spirit most likely.

-Yeah. Definitely. How do I know? Because lifestream tendrils come from nowhere, zap the paper, and add more text to the page.

New LOVELESS lines. About Genesis returning. Maybe just in Lifestream “I’m part of the land” form, maybe something more tangible.

GENESIS: “I offer thee this silent sacrifice.”

---

Helipad

-Cissnei! Hi! She’s walking up to a copter. Tseng asks her to “find the targets” before the army.

-Wait. Zack is the target? Tseng wants him alive, says that Cissnei will “save Zack’s life.” Hi, my name is Coldrun, and I’m perpetually confused.

-AW. Tseng has letters to deliver to Zack. 88 of them.

---

The Road

-Zack and Cloud, in back of a truck.

-Cloud’s still unconscious. Zack says, “Just kidding. We’re friends! I wouldn’t do that to you.”

---

The Sky

-Reno and Rude in a helicopter. Reno’s complaining about the mission.

-They’re coordinating with Cissnei.

---

Next time: Rejoining Zack and Cloud for the final session and a last stand.
