FFVII – Part 73: Surge of the Lifestream

Summary: Cloud faces off against Sephiroth one last time. One word: “Omnislash.” The Meteor plows into Midgar. Holy does its best to hold off the Meteor to a destructive stalemate before the Lifestream finishes the job. Aeris. OH YEAH, NANAKI PUPPIES!

Spaaaaaace!

-Cloud hurtles through a comet – is he part of Holy now?

-And ends up in space. Facing off with a shirtless Sephiroth. I love how quiet and understated this is compared to the noise and chaos of the prior fight.

-HOLY FUCK CLOUD

-He just used a new limit called “Omnislash.” Jeeeeeez. Sephiroth got FUCKED UP. THAT WAS AWESOME.

-It looks like Cloud didn’t just cut Sephiroth, but deatomized him or something.

Not Spaaaaaaace

-Then it looks like he’s sucked into the lifestream briefly before Tifa pulls him out.

-We’re stuck down here. (I mean, I don’t really think we’ll die, but things are looking grim.) We did our job, but Holy’s path out of here will probably kill us. It’s like (spoilers!) after the One Ring gets destroyed in Mount Doom, and Sam and Frodo are sitting there as the mountain explodes. Job complete, lives likely about to end.

-And then Gwaihir the Windlord saves us. And by “the Windlord,” I mean “the Highwind.” The erupting crater knocks the plane down, we board it, and ride the Holy wave out. It’s SO BADASS.

-Oh. Except for the part where the force of Holy dismantles the plane. CALLED THAT A LITTLE EARLY LOL

-Huh. It doesn’t dismantle it. Cid pulls some emergency thingy and the Highwind jets out intact, like a bat out of hell.

-CINEMATIC MARLENE! AWWWWW

-Wow. That meteor is really close.

-Midgar is getting majorly fucked up. The Holy force comes in and seems to dissolve the Meteor, but it’s not a clean thing. There’s fire and damage everywhere in its wake.

-Cinematic Cait Sith is… weird looking.

-Cinematic Nanaki is awesome.

-Green swirls start to emerge from the Planet. The lifestream helping out maybe?

-This is really quite beautiful. The Meteor came to destroy, the Holy power stopped it in its tracks, and the green Lifestream is coming to finish the job.

-And then the final shot: Aeris.

Savior from beyond.

No doubt the hand behind this. Chills.

-Roll credits.

-…wait.

-“500 Years Later”

-OMG IT’S LITTLE NANAKIS

-Midgar is an overgrown wilderness now.

-Wow. What a way to end the game. That was so great!

Next time: Final thoughts on FFVII.
