FFV – Part 47: Always the Water Levels

Summary: Exdeath cranks the Void up to 11, swallowing half the world. We find the next tablet’s hiding place, the Island Shrine. It’s tons of fun, because I love getting confused, debuffed, and insta-killed as often as possible. We beat the guardian (a Wendigo) and get the second tablet.

Somewhere AWESOME

-Exdeath is in this cool galactic crystal thing. Maybe the Rift?

EXDEATH: “Power of the Void! Reveal your true self!!!” Of course, Exdeath uses three exclamation points because he’s Exdeath.

-What’s he summoning?

-OH SHIT. THE VOID ENGULFS ALL THE TOWNS.

-NOOOO!! THE MOOGLE VILLAGE! LIX! HE’S SUCKING THE ENTIRE WORLD IN.

Moogle vacuum online.

-Jesus. All those towns were replaced by that black void thing.

---

Airship

-Our party in the airship survived.

-Bartz is pissed. He puts the pedal to the metal, racing the airship at max speed out of anger before the ladies get him to ctfo. Can’t blame his anger.

-I wonder… are all the people vacuumed into the Void dead, or just floating in limbo somewhere? I have to imagine the latter, if only because I can’t imagine this game actually destroying so much of the world permanently. Almost too grim, if that makes sense.

-Town nearby. Regole. The mood is pretty sour, given that their neighbors are all now in the frigging Void.

-Found the previously inaccessible island shrine, now with a bridge to it. Promising.

Island Shrine

-More gargoyles to beat.

-Trying out Bartz as a chemist. Might be a nice supplement to Monk.

-Oh no. Oiseaurares. (Imps that cast confuse.)

-Wtf? The island shrine has an air duct system.

-Boss(ish) fight! “Covert.”

Tough fight. Mix of melee and magic against us. We… sort of win? He says “That’s enough.” And leaves. I wonder if we’ll see him again. Our reward is “Rising Sun,” an awesome throwing weapon I think Faris can use as ninja.

-This random monster, Tot Aevis, has like a BILLION HIP. WTF.

-JUST DIE.

-FINALLY. Yeesh.

-Executors here cast Old, Graviga, and “Level 5 Death.”

-FUCK. They seem to have pre-emptive strike and start each fight out with “Level 5 Death,” killing Lenna. Really pissing me off.

Fuck the Island Shrine. Exhibit A.

-STOP KILLING ME. It’s always the water levels that are the nastiest.

Fuck the Island Shrine. Exhibit B.

-7th floor. Change in music for the ominous.

-There’s the tablet. After we grab it, a mystery being appears.

MYSTERY GUARDIAN: “I was excited by the thought of what warriors could have made it this far. But to think, it’s only a group of little girls!” Um. K. Boss fight!

-It’s a Wendigo. Actually, four Wendigos!

-They are really pretty nasty. Frost for aoe damage, Mind Blast for aoe damage and stuns.

-Wtf. Nothing seems to hurt them. Well, occasionally something gets through, but it’s random.

-GRRRRRR.

-Ok, chill.

-I think I see a pattern. Something about one blinking without casting a spell.

-One randomly seems to be hurtable… YES! They switch which one is vulnerable. Like, one is the real one, the other three are invincible illusions, and the real one keeps swapping around.

-Focused the right one down, and the rest faded. So satisfying, but fuck this dungeon. Got the second tablet.

-As I did, the camera switched to a desert tower, “Fork Tower,” home of strong white and black magic. “If the two houses are not traversed and spells removed as one, both shall be destroyed and the tower rent asunder.” Hm.

-Teleporting out of here, hopefully never to see another Executor ever again.

Next time: hunt for the third tablet.
