FFV – Part 53: Behind Istory Falls

Summary: Some travel and then onto Istory Falls. A hard dungeon that contains the fourth tablet.

Overworld

-Let’s find a way to Istory Falls.

-Phoenix looks AWESOME.

That spell is called “Flames of Rebirth,” and requires me to target a party member before blazing out for group fire damage. The spell name makes me think it brings the party member back to life.

-Tested. It does. It uses “Arise” actually to bring the person back to full health. Even better.

-In Phantom Village, found a ring store I didn’t see before. Got two Coral Rings and two Fire Rings.

-Stopped in Tule for supplies and played the piano. Got this message: “A piano virtuoso indeed!!! …After a bit more practice, anyway.” I used to believe that the “Piano skills leveled up!” messages I got were just flavor text, but no longer.

-Found it. The tunnel to the last tablet’s cave was underwater – actually, the same tunnel that led to Eyeball Lake back in Krile’s World.

Istory Falls

-WHAT THE FUCK. Just encountered the nightmarish “Tonberry.”

Grrrrrrr.

Kept getting closer, closer, closer… then knifing us for massive damage. Like the spawn of Demon Wall from FFIV. Tremendous HP pool. Sorry Brave Blade, I’m outta here.

-I fought a frog. At the start of the fight, I got the message: “Touched not by a maiden’s kiss…” I used a Maiden’s Kiss on the frog, thinking it’d turn into a helpful summon maybe, but it morphed into a RED DRAGON LOL.

-The water in this cave functions similarly to the sand in the Desert of Shifting Sands. Conveyer belt style.

--So many nasty monsters here. Especially the insta-killers.

-Found the tablet.

-Um. Ok. Nothing’s stopping me. Thanks for the tablet?

-lol never mind. One of Exdeath’s minions appears, a Red Demon Jester type. Here we go.

-LOLOL GUESS NOT.

Snack time.

Leviathan emerges from a nearby waterfall and eats the demon in one bite. He then challenges us to a fight to prove our purity of spirit or something. I think that outside of FFII (where he was mindless beast iirc), Leviathan’s always been a noble figure.

King of the sea.

-Coral Rings helpa a ton here, since he seems to cast Tidal Wave in retaliation to spells.

-Thundaga (and mimicked Thundaga) obliterate him. Victory! Out we go.

Sealed Castle

-I made a Shield Dragon flee. HJFKSHFDSJHKL YES TAKE THAT

-We get the last weapons. Holy Lance, Gaia Bell, Fire Lash.

-Exdeath’s Soul pops up again as a random encounter. I guess it’s not just a one-time deal.

-Back in the lobby, the scholars say an earthquake hit in the south, where only a submarine can reach.

---

Next time: explore the quake.
