Summary:
Cid and Mid have us pick up some adamantite to get the ship ready to
move on Gohn. We get some and fight off the ubiquitous Adamantoise,
then attacks the defense systems of Gohn in our airship.
Catapult
-Cid and Mid came out to meet us on the ship. They saw what happened.
-Apparently, the ancient Ronkans tried the amplification thing too, but stopped when they saw it hurt the crystals. Amplifying the earth crystal caused the city to float (or something). Someone reactivated it to intentionally overload the earth crystal.
-We need adamantite to reinforce the ship enough to reach the heights of Gohn. Galuf saw some in a meteor.
---
Meteors
-Not seeing it…
-Oh, wrong meteor! I checked the one near Karnak, but the one near Tycoon where we first met Galuf bears fruit.
-On the way out of the meteor, it’s BOSS TIME!
-Adamantoise.
Hi again!
Was this turtle in every FF game so far? I think so, but can’t remember about FFI. He’s not tough this time, the way he was in FFII.
-Just found out Spellblade from the Mystic Knight is a self-cast. Maybe I’ll have Faris get it then instead of Galuf.
---
Catapult
-Cid and Mid got the adamantite installed, and and we got an awesome montage of them working at super speed.
These two have the work ethic of six.
-Problem: the floating city is equipped with a heavy defense sytem. Awesome.
---
Air Near Gohn
-We get a controllable map of us assaulting the city. Hm… where do I go?
-Aha! When I fly near one of the city’s four guns, I get combat. Fighting two “Flamethrowers.”
Break the defenses!
-Galuf’s Gaia up here is “Sonic Boom.” LOLOL
Galuf in his younger days.
-Ok. First task then is to take out the city’s 8 flamethrowers.
-Faris’ Coral Blade as a Knight with Two-Handed equipped does a TON of damage to these things.
-And done!
-….or not.
-“SOUL CANNON!” Boss fight.
-It just keeps launching literal missiles at me that take off half my life, and then eventually does “Wave Cannon” for massive damage. OW OW OW
-Yeah. Dead.
Soul Cannon powering up to zap me into next Tuesday.
-It’s immune to Gaia attacks, Galuf’s summons seemed pretty weak, and Bard seems not all that useful here, so let’s switch stuff around.
FARIS: Knight, Two-Handed. This went well.
BARTZ: Monk, with !Animal for some YOLO spot heals. It’s risky, since as you can imagine swarms of bees and squirrel attacks don’t affect “Soul Cannon” too much, but Nightengale is a great heal when it goes off.
GALUF: Time Mage, !Black. Hoping to find a magical weakness to supplement Bartz and Faris’ melee.
LENNA: White Mage, !Time for haste on Faris.
Let’s do this.
-Dead again. Hasting Faris helped a lot this time. Galuf’s Thundara also is a big help.
-OHO!! This is set up like Dark Cloud from FFIII. The missile launchers on Soul Cannon are targetable.
-VICTORY! I spent the first two rounds of Galuf and Lenna hasting ALL the party, and took out the launchers quick. After that, melee with Faris and Bartz, Thundara with Galuf, and Cura with Lenna.
-Another really cool boss fight.

Next time: into the floating city.
