FFV – Part 33: Gathering the Magic

Summary: Somewhat uneventful session. Mostly wandering around Galuf’s world to meet interesting monsters, use them to zap Bartz in interesting ways, and learn their magic for my blue arsenal. The Gil Turtle repels us from its cave, and we meet up with Xezat.

Overworld

-Flying around to explore. I don’t see a way into Eyeball Lake. It’s ringed by mountains. I see a cave exit on the inner ring, but no entrance currently on the outer part of the ring.

-All kinds of cool monster here.

Flying jackalope attack.

-Found a cave west of Exdeath’s castle.

---

Gil Cave

-Weird name for a cave. Promising, I guess! Unless the end boss is like a big gil coin with a scary face.

-Many “Undergrounders” here. Centipede types.

-Near the end of the cave, each step I take doubles the gil I pick up. This is awesome.

Scrooge McDuck mode: ACTIVATED.

-When my step picked up 5k gil, a boss attacked. A turtle.

Made of gil?

“Gil Turtle!”

-And it wrecks me. It one shots my entire party, usually with “Turtle,” a double attack that blinds and destroys.

-Gravity doesn’t help. Ice magic helps, especially on Spellblade, but it provokes “Turtle” in retaliation.

-Ok. After a few tries, still getting destroyed. See ya, Gil Turtle. I’ll be back to try again at some point.

---

Overworld

-Learned “Transfusion” from a weird jelly thing on Exdeath’s island. Not great blue magic… sacrifices the caster to fully restore an ally’s HP/MP.

-Found a tower ringed by rocks on an island.

-I feel kind of bad for Bartz. I’m traveling the world and having all kinds of monsters sting him, set him on fire, blind him, spew digestive acide on him, all in the hopes he can learn their attacks as blue magic. Poor guy

-WHOA! “Dechirer.”

This monster looks like it’s ripping a hole into our existing. VERY creepy. I tried controlling him to cast “Vampire” on Bartz, but it was out of mana. Used an ether potion on him though, and it worked!

-Holy crap. Tough monster in the deesert near the Moogle Village: “Sandcrawler.” Couldn’t learn its “Electrocute,” and it took a LOT of punishment.

However jokey the game can be, it does creepy monsters really well.

-Enough world traveling for now. Let’s meet Xezat.

---

Xezat’s Fleet, east of Exdeath’s Island

Arriving at the Surgate fleet.

-Good. Xezat recognizes the drake, so no “Who are these people? Attack!” shenanigans to deal with.

-Xezat goes by “Swordsman” rather than “King.” Doesn’t feel it suits him.

-LOL GALUF

-Can’t seem to hop ships.

-The fleet’s a decoy. The real plan is to blow up the protective shield.

-Sleep time underneath the ship. Attack the next day.

---

Next time: attack on Exdeath’s isle!
