FFV – Part 22: Goodbye to You

Summary: Galuf’s awesome granddaughter, Krile, saves the day. Except not. Exdeath emerges, monologues us, and heads off to Galuf’s world. Galuf and Krile take the last meteorite out of Saigon, and the rest of the party stays behind.

Earth Crystal Room, in the Ronkan Ruins

-When we last left our heroes, “King Tycoon” was being super sketchy. Bartz actually see this and moves to attack, but Lenna and Faris both stop him; too tough to separate the eviltude of “King Tycoon” from their dad.

-Another meteor comes crashing nearby?

-Out pops…

-GALUF’S GRANDDAUGHTER. SHE LIGHTNING ZAPS “KING TYCOON,” KNOCKING HIM OUT. SHE IS SO BADASS.

-LOLOLOLOL – ok, the visual humor here is amazing, but a bit hard to describe:

Galuf sits puzzled, looking at the girl, with a question mark in a thought bubble over his head. Remnants of his amnesia. Then he laughs, remembering who the girl is. The question mark in the thought bubble turns into an exclamation point. He then SWATS THE THOUGHT BUBBLE, AND IT GOES BOUNCING AWAY.

-His memory is fully back now. He recognizes his granddaughter, Krile.

She’s so happy! Final Fantasy teaches me that joy is fleeting, though…

-Wow. It really WAS King Tycoon, possessed. Nice (though undoubtedly short-lived) family reunion with Lenna and Faris.

-Then the crystal shatters! The world is rocked. Colors flash, lightning strikes a forest, and a star emerges, probably meant to represent the newly freed Exdeath.

-Yup. He shows his face here for the first time. It’s Exdeath in the crystal room.

I’ll get you, my pretty! And your little chocobo, too!

-He’s a bit cheesy tbh.

-I get a bit lost here. I think he commands the crystals to attack us or something, or sucks in their power maybe? In either case, e threatens Galuf’s world with destruction and ports away.

-The real King Tycoon is doing something that I again am not sure about with the crystals. Trying to reforge them or give us their power or some dang thing. He’s dying for real.

-Yeah, dead. His sprite blinked out, which is as final as the Final Fantasy series gets.

-The crystals converge and…

WHAT

MORE JOBS

IS THIS HANUKKAH

-Samurai, Dancer, Dragoon, Chemist.

-This is incredible. How many more jobs can there be? New jobs also makes me think we may not be all that close to the end of the game. On the other hand, FFIII gave us some great new jobs, including Ninja and Sage, right before the final dungeon, so I really don’t know.

-With the levitating power of the earth crystal shattered, the ruins are collapsing. Time to hustle out.

At least there’s no timer.

---

Airship

-Galuf’s team that trapped Exdeath was the “Dawn Warriors.”

-Where did Exdeath go btw? Galuf’s planet? A MOON MAYBE? (Probably not a moon.)

-Galuf blames himself for sealing Exdeath on his own planet, where they could have taken care of things himself without dumping it on others. I feel like this could be a parable for countries that ship toxic waste to some random island or something.

---

Krile’s Meteor

-Galuf and Krile are leaving for their world.

-OH! OF COURSE! LET’S GO WITH THEM AND HAVE MORE FFV ON THEIR PLANET! I don’t know how I didn’t see this coming. We’ll hunt down Exdeath and totally shift worlds!

-Or not. Hm. This is a one-way trip, and Bartz and company are reasonably balking at the prospect of not seeing their world again. Galuf and Krile leave.

Bye.

Warning: if you’ve seen Buffy as much as I have, this musical association may crush your heart, soul, and will to not curl up into a fetal position trying to fight off the awfulness.

-And we’re on the airship. Huh. Where does the game go from here?
